The objective of the project is to prepare and implement a complete technological line for the conditioning of substrates coming from agricultural and food processing with the use of hydrodynamic and low-temperature disintegration in an innovative hybrid system. So far these processes have been used separately for the treatment of excessive sediments generated in sewage treatment plants. The proposed technology is dedicated both for implementation in agricultural biogas plants and in sewage treatment plants (municipal biogas plants). The increase in the bioavailability of substrates for methane co-digestion will contribute to a growth in the production of biogas, an improvement in the rheological properties of post-fermentation products, an improvement in the effectiveness of the dehydration of sediments, a reduction in the quantity of post-fermentation products requiring further management. The application of the disintegration technology will result in the improvement in the energy balance and the biogas plant’s profitability. The disintegration of substrates also affects the quality of the sediment liquid generated in the dehydration process which affects the approach related to its further treatment.
This issue of cleaning leachates from post-fermentation products and the recovery of nitrogen and phosphorus from the leachates in the form of struvite complements knowledge necessary to the user of the proposed technology. The disintegration, fermentation and leachate cleaning tests will be conducted in the laboratory scale and then they will be verified in the full scale in a prototype system. The target mobile disintegration unit may be used as a test product in large facilities or as a product for direct installation in smaller facilities. The system will be comprehensively analyzed and optimized at each stage by means of a computer model, and the choice of solutions will be determined by the fulfilment of technological, energy and economic criteria. The simulation model supplemented with environmental analysis will create a new advanced evaluation tool both in agricultural biogas plants and municipal biogas plants.
